John Ransom
John S. Ransom is a partner at Ransom Blackman LLP. John began his career in Washington, DC (first with the Office of Chief Counsel for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, then the D.C. Corporation Commission and, finally, as an Assistant United States Attorney). In 1973, he moved to Oregon, becoming an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Oregon. In 1977, John, Marc Blackman and another federal prosecutor founded what is now Ransom Blackman LLP. Since that time, John has earned an outstanding reputation for handling a broad range of matters in the area of white collar defense, including federal and state environmental enforcement actions, tax matters, federal food and drug administration proceedings, federal securities law matters, mail and wire fraud actions, and criminal investigations and actions under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization Act (RICO). Beyond that, he has vast experience representing individuals charged with more traditional crimes in both state and federal court.
John was recognized in the original edition of The Best Lawyers in America® in 1983 and has continued to be listed ever since. He has likewise been included on the list of “Oregon Super Lawyers” in Oregon Super Lawyers-Rising Stars magazine since 2006.
John is and has been a member of the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. He is also a member of the American Bar Association. He has served as a member of the Police Internal Investigations Auditing Committee and during his tenure served as Chairman. He was a member of the City/County Public Safety Commission. He frequently lectures at Oregon Continuing Legal Education seminars.
